Cthulhu The King of Ocean

I couldn't help it... still got to draw something "different". I hate color cause I don't really know how. Sometimes it turns out good, but sometimes it doesn't. So I did this speeding painting of Cthulhu with black and white and just to understand the value first before coloring. It's not completed but it's definitely a good warm-up.

Did it a while ago... There was a man at life drawing session. He had pretty cool feature so I did a sketch of him... of course, I did exaguate his face a bit. errrrrr... I had a thought of animating just the expression on his face...I miss animating.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JASON!

I did Jason wearing tutu skirt and post it on Cap06 blog a while ago. Unexpectly, the dream did really come true on last Friday. WE GOT HIM TO WEAR TUTU SKIRT ON HIS BIRTHDAY! HAHAHA! You are awesome, Jason!

Chinese Fairytale

This is my dad's favourite comic when he was a young boy. It's called "Zhuge Seishiro". The man with two bun on his head is the hero of the story. I had a good laugh when I saw this picture, especially the shinning sword and dull eyes. I think I owe myself a Chinese fairytale drawing. I have never really done any Chinese illustration. I guess I was trying to learn and absorb as many style as I can to get a job. Now me have a job, and I can do my own art ! Oh yeah!
So, it is a rough sketch of the moon lady. I was thinking in stand of wearing pants, She should wear long skirt to cover her feet. For the background, I am not sure if I can go complex with it. It seems like to put clouds in might be a good choice, but I would like to try something different this time. Any comment is welcome!

Insomania photos and ConceptArt.org

A co-worker at work introduces me this site " CONCEPTART.org". The artworks just blowed me away. I almost had a heart attack when I saw it. Sloth, you can't miss this one!

Check out their 4 days Insomania workshop in San francisco before Christamas. It was 4 days of intensive drawing and painting workshop with professional artists. There are 3 pages photos of their work and parties. There were models wearing like zombies and clowns in their life-drawing session. So, yeah. Enjoy it.

Caricature

This is Robert, my producer. He is weird, but funny.

Mike from my studio is a great caricature artist. He did msn head shots for Louis and me with " Beer". =_=

And Mom, if you see this, please don't take it serious. It's a joke and I don't drink.

Here is something I can't avoid doing at studio... ( I don't want to hide it anymore !! Arrrrrrrrrrr!)

Unalterable Love - Meat Package !

Here is the invitations for my cousin's wedding. I did the illustration; he designed the fonts and everything else. I would never come out with the idea of sealing invitation with Saran wrap in syrofoam containers. It is pretty weird but absolutely unrivaled!

Doodle...

The caricature of the lanlord, Sean, who lives next door. My desk is right by his door and I have to say that cigar does smells better than cigarette. Pretty damn GOOD! ( No! I am not addicted to it !)

The drawings don't look like him at all... But I like how it turned out. :D

Past...

Painted this after watching the Chinese music video 千里之外 in YouTube.

The style and the shots are pretty neat and soft. I remember my grandma has a photo of her wearing Chinese dress with the same hair style from the video.

Although she can't remember who her grandaughter is, but to me, she is the most beautiful grandma I have ever had.

I love you, grandma!

" Don't Take Your Drawing Too Serious"

I was trying to train myself to look at people on bus in 30 second and do caricatures of them. The first thing I saw was shapes and mood...Then, I started to play with lines.

Sometimes the drawings turned into something completely different...but at the same time, I discovered some new tricks.

" Don't Take Your Drawing Too Serious", my friend told me that his teacher always said it. I don't know why but somehow I do agree what he said... I remebered someone told me this line a long time ago.

... I am waiting for the revision of this invitation from my cousin. The only thing that really concerns me is the overall colors and the church. I hope people can somewhat reconize it is absolutely a church! Not someone else's house!

I know if I have more time, I would make it much better...

Anyway, I finished it !!! HAHAHA!

15 minutes design challenge:

Tuesday, September 19, 2006

Let's fly to the moon ! Wo-hoo!

This is for my cousin's wedding invitation. Every thing done in Flash! It took me a while to delete all the outlines... Can't use Photoshop cause it will leave huge gaps when I delete the outlines from the layer .

My cousin wants his invitation in Arthur De Pins' style. A great illustrator...truly respect his work.

Anyhow... hopefully, I can get the backgound done by the end of tomorrow.

Monday, September 11, 2006

This is my take for Mentok. I have no idea what he does and what he eats. I think him as a fat and passionate Italian singer.

After finished this drawing, I realized the style does look like Sean's. #$%^&*+#... Sorry man... your style has already marked in my mind... I cann't wipe it off. Too expressive... just like you ...

Well... whatever. As long as it works.

Saturday, September 09, 2006

They are my favor singers... No matter how many time watching it, I still love their performance.

They are my hero !!! hahahahahaha!!!!

Monday, September 04, 2006

This is designed for my cousin's wedding invitation. He said that I made him looked too handsome and his friends won't be able to reconize him. Okay. It's fine, my dearest cousin. Let's make you really ugly. Like elephant man! Hahahaha!

BTW, any comment on the design ?

Drawn by James Jean

I was so glad that I went to Comicon today. James Jean did a sketch of elenphant boy on my sketch book. I couldn't believe that he really spent time to do a decent sketch for the people on the line waiting for his drawing.

The first time saw his work was in " Swallow" art book. I like his surreal style and I was really inspired how he can freely paint what he loves.

Today,I bought his art prints "Fables 54 - The Witchhunter Wears Hermès" and "Flip".

The Illustration for "flip" was to tell the reader to turn the magazine "Complex" upside down to read the 2nd half of the issue. For the painting "Fables 54 - The Witchhunter Wears Hermès", I think it is just his personal work. I went to his blog and I was totally fell for it. It is just beautiful and tragic like Kent Williams' .

I wanted to buy his art book, but the last one was sold to the person who was lining right in front of me. Funny thing was that he was animating Wubbsy at Bardel.

Had really good falafel plater for lunch today... pretty happy. ^^

Louis is a funny guy who I am currently working with at Monkey Paw. Thanks to him for introducing me these great links.

You have to check this out! There is a cool online animation school for students and perofessionals. They have some pretty good reels there. It totally makes me want to go back to school to learn 3D! http://www.animationmentor.com/index.cfm

Ah... It's been a while since the last post. I miss life drawing so much that I even had a dream about it!

One thing I like to take bus is that I can actually practise drawing still life and try to fill up my sketch book ...

...I really miss the time when my classmates did caricature of one another. It was fun.

Monday, August 07, 2006

I wondered if I change the painting to a night scene,it would work better for the evil magician's appearance. Thanks to Sean's suggestion on the painting. I toned down the background and resized the rides to give it a better composition and contrast.

After 3 hours of coloring on the painting, I felt like I distored the painting. Too much details and the light source is confused. I spent too much time on it. Finally, I had to stop this nonsence process and moved to work my build project for work.

My work has been going well so far. I really enjoy posing and building characters for Chaotic. I have had a lot fun with pushing the facial expression and posing in extreme angle. Although the design of the characters are not my favourite, but to learn the style of the show is a luxury to me.

Anyway, after doing research on playland on the Internet, I just want to redo my entire painting and redesign the rides. Ahhhhhhhhhh!

Have to go back to work... Any more suddestions on the painting ?
Finally, I have something to show this week. This was from a deam I had a while ago.I dream a black magician coming to Vancouver. He liked to make this city to his own playland and tortured the people until they die.

I was having horrible time finding color and painting it. Over all, it seems too colorful. Myabe I should turn the pink down a little bit. Any comment is welcome !

Wednesday, July 26, 2006

After watching Superman returm last Monday, I did a sketch of him right away. Every thing about flying is just AWESOME ! Totally love the movie !
Thanks to Jason, my build director, helped me out with the hands and pose on the drawing. He is a great ! Yeh !

Ihe painting is still in progress. I think I can simplify his lines more... play with his style... like Bruce Tim's.
I haven't decide what I want for the background. I was thinking about having him above the city.
Anyway, ganna take a nap...ah

Thursday, July 20, 2006

Finally, I fiinshed the painting this morning. It was inspired by Takeshi Kitano in Blind Samurai and Samurai Champloo. Thanks to Jesse for helping me to simplify the lines of the figure. I was pleased by the 9 by 12 Wacom table I bought last month. The Wacom pen can create really nice Chinese brush work in Photoshop. I want to do as many arts as possible before starting work....and learn to paint with Painter IX, too...

okay...

must sleep now... later~

Sunday, July 16, 2006

I got this strange movie called " Battle Royale" this week. Takeshi Kitano from " Blind Samurai" was in this film.
It was about a group of 9th grade students got kidnapped and sent to a deserted island where they were forced to kill each other until one survivor was left.

Anyway, I am planing to finish watching this movie and see if I can find something entertaining.

This is the sketches of this week. I tried TOMBOW Dual Brush Pens and rembrandt_polycolor pencil on Robert Batman Sketchbook which has thicker and smoother sketch paper. I was suprised that my marker and brush pen didn't get on back of the paper and crayon pencil can create pretty smooth texture on it as well.

Pretty fun toys. Ha-ha.

Sorry for my bad grammer..

More drawings...

Monday, July 10, 2006

After watching Italy won the World Cup, my friend and I decided to go to English Bay and drew. It was a perfect day to sketch in Downtown. As I excepted, a lot of Italian were celebrating the victory by marching through the streets. While I was doodling, I saw a guy carring a sword and a shield walking by. I was about to scream like a little girl. He forgot his helmet and armor at home !

(I know... not really funny...)
My friend, Janelle. She turned out older than I thought...oops!

I think Mick Jagger may be a good start to practise caricature, although I have seen his caricature on Robson, Vancouver. I discovered his photograph on the Internet and sketched him again on paper, then scanned and colored with the use of Sketch Pro. It looks not bad, eh?

Sunday, June 25, 2006

I was watching " The House of Mirth" last night and trying to caricature Gillian Anderson, but it didn't turn out the way I wanted. So, I tried to design Dr. Watson from "Sherlock Holmes". I read it when I was a kid and thought he was sophisticated, conservative, and wise. Do you think this drawing tells you what type of person he is ?

Thursday, June 22, 2006

I didn't practise life drawing for a month and almost forget how to draw. I was trying to remeber what I had learned in the past two years. I saw my instructor Moh's drawings on the wall. I have to say, his drawings are truly inspiring.

Hey! Have you seen the Coca Cola washroom ? It is in Chung Yo department store in Taichung city. The Coca Cola restroom is just one of the excellent designs in Chung Yo department store. So are the designs from the Basketball , the Jungle, the Aquarium, and the Toys restrooms.

By this restaurant's policy, all the customers have to throw up what they have just eaten.

Hi, everyone. Allow me to introduce you the "so-called" Toilet meal, one of the most popular lunch menu in my home town, Taichung. Each main dish includes a bowl of seaweed soup and rice, and a plate of appetiser (covered with a BROWN lid). I ordered Milk Hot Pot with beef in a pink toilet, and my friend ordered Teriyaki chicken in a black toilet. Both of them tasted delicious. If you like to try some side dishes, fried potato and chicken in an Asian toilet also considered a good choice!
